Network Internal War

This blog originates from an international academic network devoted to the study of Internal War: Society, Social Order, and Political Conflict in Antiquity. The network investigates the impact of internal conflicts on social and political disintegration and reintegration processes in Greco-Roman antiquity. The aim is to better understand the cohesive forces of ancient societies, of their internal conflict potentials, and of their reorganization strategies. The network pursues a comparative approach to the structures, functions and dynamics of ancient conflict cultures, and includes the different political frameworks (especially democracy vs. monarchy) and cultural fields (polis vs. empire, capital monarchy vs. residential empire, pagan vs. monotheistic religion, etc.).

The formation of the network was funded by the German Research Foundation.
